2004 Saint Paul Winter Carnival

For some reason, people started sky diving while we were in line to get into the ice castle. One of the many ice sculptures inside the castle. Another ice sculpture. I'm not quite sure but I think this is a sculpture of King Borealis. My uncle David, from Arizona. It wasn't completely frozen outside by Minnesota standards, but was pretty cold for Arizona standards. He's a Vikings fan, so we excuse the complaints about cold weather.

Apparently he thought we were holding him hostage. The ice palace was one of the first built in a long while in St. Paul. It was part of the 2004 All-Star Weekend. One of the towers showing the relative height of the castle. There was a stage where live bands were preforming. I believe the Barenaked Ladies played during the All-Star game. My home away from home, the Xcel Energy Center.

Yes, there was an ice rink inside the ice castle. Another profile view of the castle. Larger view of the sculpture garden. There was a lit flame, just hard to see during the day. An ice wall separating the castle area from West 7th and the X.

Not to be outdone with ice, the snow sculptors were out in force that day. This is a half-baked Snoopy. A nearly completed birdhouse snow sculpture. The ice palace at night, all lit up. This was taken from inside the X. The building in the background is the Minnesota History Center. It changed colors to the currently playing music.
